Applying as a Freshman
Welcome to the Applying as a Freshman section of the Admissions website. Here you will find all the tools you need to complete your freshman application file. We hope to see you at Virginia Tech soon!
Before beginning the application process, take a look at the brief overview below of how to apply and what to expect.
Step By Step
- Apply online
(Virginia Tech expects all applicants to apply using the online application unless you are using an official fee-waiver. Students who will be using an official fee-waiver must apply using the paper application, and attach the fee-waiver to it upon submission.) - Submit all supporting documentation by the application deadline. (See the Application Checklist.) Applications that are incomplete at the deadline will be canceled.
- Arrange to have your final transcript sent to us as soon as possible, by the deadline noted on the Final Requirements.
What to Expect
Within 24 hours of Virginia Tech’s receipt of your application you should receive a verification e-mail confirming your personal information.
Within two weeks of Virginia Tech’s receipt of your application you should receive:
An email with the subject "Virginia Tech Guest Account Invitation". Please follow the instructions to create your guest account. You must have this guest account to access the application status page.
NOTE: You will have 48 hours to create your Guest Account. If the 48 hour period expires before you create your account, you will receive another e-mailed invitation automatically. If more than three 48-hour invitations expire and you still have not created your Guest Account, you will need to send an e-mail to admiss@vt.edu to request another invitation.
