What We Need From You
Whether you apply online or send in the paper application, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions must receive the following supporting materials to ensure your application file is complete:
Application must be postmarked or submitted online by January 15. The supplemental materials listed below may follow at a later date.
- Payment of the non-refundable application fee of $60.
- SAT Reasoning Test or ACT plus writing test scores. Tests should be taken by the December test date of the applicant's senior year. Virginia Tech’s CEEB code is 5859; the ACT code is 4420. (Students who take both the SAT and ACT do not need to submit ACT writing scores.)
- High School Transcript:
An official or unofficial copy of your current high school transcript must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions within a reasonable time period from the application deadline (Early Decision: November 1; Regular Decision: January 15). Transcripts for Regular Decision freshman applications should be received by February 15.
- High School Counselor Supplemental Form (included in both the online and paper Freshman Application): All applicants must print this form and have a guidance counselor or principal complete and sign it and include it with the transcript.
- Mid-Year High School Report (included in both the online and paper Freshman Application): Applicants should work with their guidance counselors to complete the Mid-Year High School Report, then submit the report along with a copy of their first semester or mid-year report card to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as soon as the report card is available (no later than February 27).
- Final Grades/High School Transcript: All incoming freshmen must submit their final official high school transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions no later than June 30.
Letters of recommendation are not requested; however, if an applicant chooses to send one, it must accompany the high school transcript.
Don’t forget to…
- Provide your U.S. Social Security Number and correct date of birth.
- Indicate your planned entrance date.
- Include copies of both sides of your Resident Alien card and visa (if applicable).
- Select your requested major.
- Check the Early Decision box and sign the Early Decision statement at the end of the application (if applicable).
- Agree to and sign the Pledge of Honor.
- For maximum financial aid consideration, complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. The priority deadline is March 1.
- Complete the Virginia Tech General Scholarship application by March 1 for all need and non-need based scholarships. (You must complete the FAFSA before you can submit the General Scholarship application.)
Note: It is the responsibility of each applicant to submit all required information and materials by the deadline and to ensure that
the information is accurate. Completed applications will receive priority in the review process. Because of time constraints, it is not always possible for the admissions office to request missing information. When submitting supplemental materials
separate from the application, make sure your name, date of birth, and high school name are included
on all pieces. Also, be sure to include your current name, if different from the name on the materials.
To help us and yourself, please review the above checklist carefully. The university reserves the right to withdraw, without notice, any application that is not complete by the deadline.
