How to Apply
Please review the following instructions carefully, as they are here to guide you through the process toward a complete and successful application.
There are two ways to apply for admission to Virginia Tech: online and using the traditional paper application. Virginia Tech expects all applicants to apply using the online application; however, if you are planning on using an official fee-waiver, you MUST apply using the paper application, and attach the fee-waiver to it upon submission.

Applying Online
Our web application allows you to create a user account and define a password to access your application. You will be able to save your work and come back to it as often as you like until the application is completed. The application for Virginia In-State Tuition, or residency form, is included at the end of the application. Only students who think they qualify as Virginia residents need complete these pages.
Supporting Materials
In addition to your completed application and application fee, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions must receive all supporting materials in order to complete your application file. For a complete list of what is needed, please see the Application Checklist.
Application Changes
Once you have completed and paid for your application, you can send any necessary changes to us at appchange@vt.edu. See our application changes page for more information.
Please DO NOT set up a new account and submit a secondary application to make changes to a completed/paid application. No refunds will be given for secondary application fees.

Application Tips
The directors and assistant directors of undergraduate admissions want you to know:
Deadlines
It's important to take note of the dates and deadlines in the application process. A complete application file that includes the application, the application fee, and all supporting information will receive priority during review.
In-State Tuition
Students who are Virginia residents need to fill out and submit the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition Rates (PDF). If applicants have questions about residency, they can contact our office.
Check Your E-mail
Applicants need to provide the Office of Undergraduate Admissions with a valid e-mail address and check it often, as there are many instances when we need to communicate with applicants during the application review period.
Personal Statements
While we do not request essays, we have included on the application two optional personal statements to assess aspects of students that we would not otherwise find on a standardized test or in a grade point average. Applicants should view each personal statement as an opportunity to provide us with additional insight.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
All applicants should fill out and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Virginia Tech General Scholarship Application as soon after January 1 as possible in order to take advantage of all available financial assistance. The priority filing date for both applications is March 11.
