International Students- What's Next?
May
- Meet deadline for freshman acceptance of admission and return of housing contract (must be postmarked by May 1).
- Look for computer specifications to arrive in the mail (mid-May).
- Look for Dining Guide to arrive in the mail (end of May).
June
- Meet deadline for transfer student acceptance of offer of admission and return of housing contract.
- Look for PID/e-mail address to arrive in the mail (beginning of June).
- Mail Dining Plan choice to Virginia Tech (deadline: June 23).
- Look for Residential Housing Federation (RHF) vendor information on lofts, carpets, refrigerators to arrive in the mail (end of June).
July
- Look for Fall tuition bill notification (mid-July).
- Look for room assignment information from Residential & Dining Programs to arrive in via email (end of July).
August
- Meet deadline for Fall tuition payment.
- Orientation for international students begins.
- Check-in for new freshmen begins.
- Get ready to study! Classes begin!
Admission to the United States (Visa and Legal Requirements
Accepted students who have presented evidence of adequate finances for their education will be issued an I-20 or DS-2019 form by the Cranwell International Center. If you intend to enroll at Virginia Tech, this form should be presented at the nearest U.S. Consulate and exchanged for an F-1 (student) or J-1 (exchange visitor) visa. Neither an I-20 nor an DS-2019 can be issued prior to the student’s receipt of an offer of admission. Students must enter the United States under the provisions of an F-1 or J-1.
