There are three enrollment options for applying for non-degree admission to Virginia Tech: apply online, download and print the application and submit it by mail or in person, or, for those wishing to take classes online, simply apply through VTOnline. Virginia Tech expects all applicants to apply using the online application; however, if you are planning on using an official fee-waiver, you MUST apply using the paper application, and attach the fee-waiver to it upon submission.
Enrollment Option 1: Apply Online
Our web application allows you to create a user account and define a password to access your application. You will be able to save your work and come back to it as often as you like until the application is completed. The application for Virginia In-State Tuition, or residency form, is included at the end of the application. Only students who think they qualify as Virginia residents need complete these pages.
Enrollment Option 2: Use the Paper Application
In order to successfully download the paper application, you must have a recent version of the free Adobe Reader software, version 5 or later.
Enrollment Option 3: Register for Online Classes
Non-degree students who want to take online courses should apply through VTOnline. A non-refundable $40 processing fee is required. Questions about online courses can be addressed to vto@vt.edu or 540-231-1264.
Supporting Materials
In addition to your completed application and application fee, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions must receive all supporting materials in order to complete your application file. For a complete list of what is needed, please see the Application Checklist.
Application Changes
Once you have completed and paid for your application, you can send any necessary changes to us at appchange@vt.edu. Please see the application changes page for more information.
Please DO NOT set up a new account and submit a secondary application to make changes to a completed/paid application. No refunds will be given for secondary application fees.

Deadlines
It's important to take note of the dates and deadlines in the application process. A complete application file that includes the application, the application fee, and all supporting information will receive priority during review.
In-State Tuition
Students who are Virginia residents need to fill out and submit the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition Rates (PDF). If applicants have questions about residency, they can contact our office.
Check Your E-mail
Applicants need to provide the Office of Undergraduate Admissions with a valid e-mail address and check it often, as there are many instances when we need to communicate with applicants during the application review period.
