Virginia Community College and Richard Bland College (VCCS/RBC) graduates with associate's degrees based upon a baccalaureate oriented sequence of courses and who are offered admission to Virginia Tech will be granted junior level status upon admission and will have fulfilled requirements for the University Core Curriculum, recognizing that it may take such students longer than two years to complete the baccalaureate because of prerequisites in the major or other requirements or circumstances.

VCCS/RBC students who are offered admission and who have been certified as having completed the Virginia Community College Transfer Module, and have a grade of "C" or better in each course of the module, will have fulfilled requirements toward the University Core Curriculum.

Admission preference shall be given to local transfer students who have completed an A.A., A.S., or A.A.'S. (Associate in Arts and Sciences) at the Virginia Community College System or Richard Bland College as well as to completers of the Virginia Community College System Transfer Module as certified by the VCCS. Transfer students shall have the same opportunities as other native students in areas of residence and dining programs, registration, scholarships, and financial aid.

VCCS/RBC Transfer Module

Students admitted to the university who have been certified by the Virginia Community College System or Richard Bland College as completing the transfer module will be deemed to have completed the University Core Curriculum components listed below and will receive 35 total credits for the module:

• Area 1: Writing and Discourse (ENGLISH in module). 6 credits.
• Area 2: Ideas, Cultural Tradition, and Values (HUMANITIES in module). 6 credits.
• Area 3: Society and Human Behavior (SOCIAL SCIENCE in module). 6 credits.
• Area 4: Scientific Reasoning and Discovery (SCIENCE in module). 8 credits.
• Area 5: Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (MATH in Module). 3 credits.

Students will still need to complete the remaining hours of Area 5, Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning, as well as Area 6, Creativity and Aesthetic Experience, and Area 7, Critical Issues in a Global Context. The Transfer Module is considered as a whole, not course-by-course. Students admitted who do not present transferable credit for the entire module will have their credentials evaluated course-by-course, and may find deficiencies in their completion of the Virginia Tech Core Curriculum, depending on the particular courses selected.

Similarly, students already matriculated at Virginia Tech should apply course-by-course rules and not assume that particular pieces of the Transfer Module will transfer as particular components of the Core Curriculum. As noted in Section III, F and G, of the STATE POLICY ON TRANSFER, students with Transfer Module credit may still need to complete specific courses for in-major (or in-minor) requirements, even if they overlap with Core Curriculum areas.

Transfer credit is awarded by the student's academic dean. Students who have not completed an associates degree or the transfer module may still be eligible to transfer to Virginia Tech. The Transfer Guide gives full information regarding transfer to the university.
