General Guidelines for Spring Applicants

Virginia Tech will enroll a very limited number of new students in the spring semester due to having only minimal space available. As a general guideline, we encourage students not to apply for the spring semester as long as there are classes available for them to take at their current college or university that could still move them forward toward their degree at Virginia Tech.

For guidance on coursework, please refer to our transfer guide. You can use the Transfer Equivalency Database to evaluate how credits have transferred from other institutions to Virginia Tech in the past. There is also a section on preferred courses from the Virginia Community College System for each major at Virginia Tech.

If you do choose to apply for the spring semester, you must apply using the paper application, and you must apply by October 1.

Should you apply, one of three actions will be taken on your application:

• If you are graduating in December with an associate's degree from a community college, or if you have a significant number of earned hours from another college or university, your application will be reviewed for any available spaces for spring semester and you will be notified by November 1 of an admissions decision.
• If there is no space for spring and it appears your application may be competitive for a future term, we will roll your application to the next fall term, notify you of this action and review your application in April for fall admission.
• If your application credentials are not competitive for admission, your application will be denied and you will be notified in writing by November 1.
