Due to limited space availability, admission to the spring semester is much more competitive. As a general rule you are not encouraged to apply unless you are graduating from a Virginia Community College.
You should not apply if:
- You are in your first semester of college. You must have completed at least two full semesters of classes before transferring to Virginia Tech.
- You are interested in one of the following majors, which are unavailable for spring registration. Please apply for the first summer session instead.
- Architecture
- Industrial Design
- Interior Design
- Landscape Architecture
- Studio Arts BFA
- Visual Communication Design (VCD) BFA
- Courses are available at your current institution that still move you toward a degree
You should apply if:
You are graduating from a Virginia community college in December with an Associate's degree.
How to Apply
Submit a packet containing the following by October 1 to Virginia Tech, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 965 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24061:
- A paper application.
- A cover letter explaining why you should begin in the spring and why you are unable to continue at your current institution
- Official or unofficial copies of your transcripts
- The non-refundable application fee of $60. Include a check or money order payable to Treasurer of Virginia Tech.
What to Expect
One of the following actions will be taken on your application.
- If you are graduating in December with an Associate's degree from a Virginia community college your application will be reviewed for any available spaces for spring semester. You will be notified by November 15 of an admissions decision.
- If your application credentials are not competitive for admission, your application will be denied. You will be notified in writing by November 15.
