Please note, Virginia Tech’s Biology program is referred to as Biological Sciences. If you are interested in studying Biology, you should select Biological Sciences (BIOL) when completing the application.
Biological sciences is the study of life. As such our curriculum provides a broad education in the fundamentals of biology such as ecology, genetics, microbiology, botany, zoology, molecular biology and biotechnology to name just a few. A BS degree in the biological sciences also requires that our students are well versed in chemistry, organic chemistry, physics and statistics as well which are all part of our curriculum.
The biological sciences curriculum also prepares students for graduate school and professional schools in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and related fields. Most students pursuing a B.S. in the biological sciences find employment immediately upon graduation. To enhance professional development and employment potential, faculty members encourage students to participate in undergraduate research opportunities and/or relevant internships.
Biological Sciences is a part of the College of Science. Majors in this college may share high school preparation requirements as well as common coursework at Virginia Tech.
