The Department of Geography has started a new undergraduate bachelor’s degree in meteorology, the only such program offered in Virginia. This program will prepare students for careers in meteorology and weather forecasting with a significant focus on Geospatial Information Technology, which consists of Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing and unites data from both the natural and human environments. Geospatial skills are the major contributors to the third fastest growing sector of the economy in the United States.
Meteorology is a part of the College of Natural Resources & Environment. Majors in this college may share high school preparation requirements as well as common coursework at Virginia Tech.
