Classical Studies

Classical Studies at Virginia Tech offers the opportunity to study the languages and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. The Classical Studies major consists of two components: Classical Studies (which includes a variety of courses, from ancient history to art and architecture to biblical studies) and Classical Languages (which includes the study of Latin and Greek). Virginia Tech is an excellent place to study Classics, since it allows you to form the minor or major to fit a variety of needs. A Classics major can be the main focus of your study, or the major or minors can support another major. Classical Studies students also have the opportunity to study abroad. An intensive four-week study trip to Greece introduces students to the Greek world, new and old, by study and travel on the Greek mainland and selected islands. It is a survey of Greek history, culture, archaeology, art, architecture, and literature brought alive by being on site.
