French
Virginia Tech offers an exceptionally high quality Bachelor of Arts degree program in French. Even though we are one of the larger undergraduate French programs in the United States, we pride ourselves on knowing each and every one of our students individually. French majors take a minimum of two senior seminars (4314). These courses are highly interdisciplinary and have included topics such as French Cinema, Constructions and Subversions of Gender, Surrealism, Les Voix de la Réforme, Lire les Passions, and much more. These courses change every semester allowing professors to incorporate the most recent developments in the field. More than 86% of our French majors study abroad, including 88% of the most recent graduating class. They have the choice of a large variety of programs. We also offer a rich program of extracurricular activities with two different French clubs: Le Cercle francophone and Frenchship. The clubs have two to three activities per week and many opportunities to meet fellow students who are native French speakers. In addition, we have a student-run, French language newspaper called the Feuille de Chou.
