Fisheries Science
Fisheries science, offered through the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, focuses on the study, conservation, and sustainable use of aquatic animals and ecosystems. Virginia Tech's program is one of the nation’s largest in freshwater fisheries, emphasizing management of recreational fisheries and endangered species.
Most graduates work for public fisheries management agencies, environmental consulting firms, or public utilities. Because many jobs in this field require a master’s degree, the program emphasizes preparation for graduate school.
