Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise
Human nutrition, foods and exercise builds on the life sciences to help people maintain good health. The undergraduate options include: consumer foods; dietetics; exercise and health promotion (EHP); and the science of food, nutrition, and exercise (SFNE). All options provide a strong science background in chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition. The dietetics curriculum is approved/accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE), enabling students to apply for CADE-accredited internships. Students in the EHP option serve as cardiac rehabilitation interns for the Virginia Tech Health & Wellness Program in their senior year and complete a field experience in a health-fitness or clinical exercise program. The SFNE option is a pre-profession track in preparation for medical, pharmacology, dental, nurse practitioner, and physical therapy schools.
