Hokies March in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Hokies march in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

For the first time in eight years, the Highty-Tighties marched in the 80th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Thursday, November 22, marking their sixth performance in the parade since 1977.

The Highty-Tighties, officially known as the Virginia Tech Regimental Band, is the oldest continuously performing musical organization at Virginia Tech. Founded in 1893, the band has grown significantly to become a symbol of excellence at the university.

Incoming freshman who choose to enroll in the Corps of Cadets program and participate in the Highty-Tighties marching band qualify for a $1,000 scholarship. By participating in the Corps of Cadets program, you can also compete for a $12,000 out-of-state award or an $8,000 in-state award. Membership in the Corps of Cadets and the Highty-Tighties does not obligate you to military service.
