Important information about Virginia Tech email account-targeted phishing scams
Do you realize almost six billion phishing emails are sent each month?
In general, phishing scam emails will appear to be sent from legitimate support groups and usually request that you enter personal identifying information.
If you choose to apply to Virginia Tech, you will receive a series of e-mails from "admiss@vt.edu" and "PleaseDoNotReply@vt.edu." These e-mails will contain the subject lines of "Virginia Tech Application Status Page," and "Virginia Tech Guest Account Invitation." These e-mails will contain instructions on how to follow through with the application process at Virginia Tech. However, at no time will Virginia Tech will ever request information such as social security numbers or passwords to be sent through e-mail.
